Roadmap
Here’s what is on the horizon, in terms of things we plan to build for Layout Department. These features will be in the paid license, unless noted.
Up next
- Resize your pages, define exact trim size of page
- Trim/crop marks (all pages, first page only)
- Bleed (define bleed size, add a second set of trim marks)
- Custom paper sheet sizes; extended list of paper sizes
- Cover interiors (lay out files for printing content on the inside of the cover)
Longer term plans
These are not necessarily in order we’ll work on them. They also could be quite a ways out in time from being built — we’re a two person collaboration and don’t work on this full time. Still, potentially useful as a peek ahead!
- Work and Turn impositions
- Collation mode for making multiple copies on a printer/xerox that can output collated prints (2 copies on 4-up, 3 copies on 6-up, etc)
- Registration marks
- 12-up (2x6, 6x2, 3x4, 4x3), 16-up (4x4, 2x8)
- Shift layouts that don’t take up the full amount of the sheet further back, away from the lead edge (useful for risograph)
- Color Bars
- Accordion layouts
- French Fold covers
- Other covers with a spine (perfect bound)
- Right side spine booklet impositions
- 16-up Magic Zines (2 copies of same zine, or two zines, special layout with half as one zine with poster on back)
- Resizing Magic Zines, allowing bleed and trim marks
- Dark mode
- Creep: Creep calculator helper tool for custom creep (add your caliper / measurement of a stack of papers) – currently instructions for doing it by hand are here. Save a custom setting for creep.
Much longer term
- Custom layout builder: define your own N x N tiled layout, then place the pages in order and define the rotation for each page. Define your page, sheet gutter and position on the sheet. Custom registration marks and placements.
- Saved templates with all your favorite settings.
- Saved Layout Department files – reopen a project, duplicate an old project to create a new one.
