Grid Position
If the trim size of your pages is smaller than the max page size (either by Resizing or based on the original PDF’s size), with Layout Department (paid license) you can move the page grid around on the page. (You might also want to edit the Grid Spacing.)
The default is centered; to change the grid position, scroll down in the left hand sidebar and change the Grid position dropdown to custom. Here, you’ll see text boxes to specify how far the grid of content is from the edges of the sheet of paper. You can also click on the page grid (it will highlight in blue) and drag it to re-position.
- You’ll see a vertical grey line when your page grid is centered vertically on the sheet of paper, and a horizontal grey line when it is centered horizontally.
- A red line will show up on an edge when you can’t move the page grid any further without hitting the edge of the sheet.
- Double click the page grid or the center of the grid position editor in the left sidebar to re-center the page grid on the sheet.
- A yellow dot will show up next to the text boxes to warn you if your trim and/or bleed marks might be in the “unprintable area” of the page. (Most printers can’t print to the very edge of the paper. You can change the unprintable area Overlay in the Settings; by default it is 5mm.)
Why would you do this? - Moving the content away from the “lead edge” that feeds through the printer first is common for risograph printers and offset printers, who might need less ink in that area for clean feeding through the printer.
- Moving the content off the center can create a bigger scrap area of useful offcuts, or you could edit your PDFs further before you print, and fill that space to with extra things like bookmarks or small cards.
You can also move the grid position to the left/right on the page, and the position of the content printed on the backs of the sheets moves accordingly. That might look like this, for example:

In certain cases, such as with Special Repeated Sheet and Cover Layouts with a single stencil / single plate, moving the grid position might not be possible, or you might only be able to move the grid in one direction, but not both.
