Empty Pages Mode
This is a special setting that you might not run into often.
If you’re printing with the “printing collated” Assembly type, and only printing a single copy, in then in some cases (depending on how many pages your layout has on each side of the sheet) your PDF might have blank pages added to the end of the document.
There are two places you could put these blank pages, so you’ll see an option in the left sidebar called Empty pages with two options:
- In booklet — The empty pages will be laid out so that when you fold your booklet, they’ll be in the booklet at the end.
- At end of sheet — The empty pages are at the bottom of the last page. Cut them off and save the paper for something else, and they won’t be included in your booklet. Any empty pages that aren’t in increments of 4 will still be added to the end of the booklet.
For example, if you have a layout with 4 pages per sheet side, so 8 pages per sheet. Your PDF has 12 pages of content – so there are 4 extra spots in the layout. By default, the empty pages would be added so that they’re in the book. But if you don’t want them there, choose “at end of sheet” and the extras will arranged so they’re not in the book, and instead that section of the sheet gets trimmed off. (You can use it for something else, like scrap paper.)
